iPhone 12 Pro reviews – Pros and Cons

Avatar of Shabnam Dhar
Apple’s high-end flagship devices, the iPhone 12 Pro, feature 5G, triple-lens cameras, LiDAR scanners, updated designs, and the A14 CPU.

Apple’s latest handset, the iPhone 12 Pro, includes a 5G connection, the A14 CPU for enhanced performance, an upgraded camera system with a LiDAR scanner, and MagSafe, all in a new squared-off design.

The iPhone 12 Pro, which was released in October of 2020, is still among Apple’s newest iPhones, but they are nearing the end of their product cycle. Apple usually releases new iPhone models in September, and despite the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max being released a month later than normal in 2020, it appears that new iPhone 13 Pro models will be released in September as well.

A 12-megapixel triple-lens camera comprises of a wide-angle lens, an ultra-wide-angle lens, and a telephoto lens on the iPhone 12 Pro. In comparison, the standard iPhone 12 sports a dual camera with wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle lenses. The 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max has an identical camera arrangement as the smaller iPhone 12 Pro, but it has a higher-quality zoom lens.

Unlike every iPhone model after the iPhone X, the iPhone 12 Pro features a flattened stainless steel frame. It’s a significant shift, but it’s not unprecedented. Apple began with a flat frame with the iPhone 4 and continued with it until the iPhone 5s when it switched to rounded edges. Whether you like it or not, you’ll have to get addicted to it for the next couple of iPhone generations.

The 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro has a resolution of 2532 x 1170 pixels per inch as well as a pixel density of 460 pixels per inch, whereas the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max has a resolution of 2778 x 1284 pixels per inch and a pixel density of 458 pixels per inch. The displays enable HDR with a full intensity of 1200 nits, as well as Wide Color, Haptic Touch, and True Tone, all of which have been introduced in recent years. A new Ceramic Shield shell protects the screens, which Apple claims “goes beyond glass” and is stronger than any smartphone glass. It has nano-ceramic crystals injected into it and provides 4x greater dropping performance.

iPhone 12 Pro Battery

Apple does not disclose the battery capacities of its iPhones, but based on some recent breakdown results, the iPhone 12 Pro appears to have a capacity of 2,815mAh, which is smaller than the iPhone 11 Pro. On an Android smartphone in 2020, this would be hilarious, but on an iPhone, it’s perfectly acceptable for regular usage. Before the battery level went below 10%, I was able to obtain a full day of usage and a few more hours of use the next day. I was still getting close to a full day even with greater use.

  • MagSafe wireless charging up to 15W10
  • Qi wireless charging up to 7.5W10
  • Charging via USB to computer system or power adapter
  • Fast-charge capable:
  • Up to 50% charge in around 30 minutes11 with 20W adapter or higher (sold separately)
  • Video playback: Up to 17 hours
  • Video playback (streamed): Up to 11 hours
  • Audio playback: Up to 65 hours

If you don’t already have a Type-C power adaptor, charging the iPhone 12 Pro can be a nightmare. You can charge it with a computer, but it will take a long time but you’ll need one with a Type-C connector. For Rs. 1,900, Apple would gladly offer you its new 20W Type-C adaptor, which is claimed to charge the 12 Pro’s battery up to 50% in half-hour. I had the iPhone 11 Pro’s 18W adaptor and was able to charge it to 58 percent in about half an hour. After 30 minutes, the charging pace starts to slow down, and the battery is charged to 87 percent. The iPhone 12 Pro’s battery took around 1 hour and 40 minutes to completely charge. You may choose one of Apple’s new MagSafe chargers if you want to be trendy. MagSafe chargers and accessories, which are intended to magnetically latch onto the back of the iPhone (due to magnets in the charger and the phone itself) for best contact, are compatible with the iPhone 12 Pro and the remainder of the series. I’ve been using Apple’s basic MagSafe charger, which costs Rs. 4,500 and can provide up to 15W of wireless charging when purchased with Apple’s own adaptor. The magnets are powerful, and the charger stays firmly attached to the iPhone’s back unless you rip it off with force.

While MagSafe is a fantastic way to charge your new iPhone 12 Pro, I prefer conventional charging for several reasons. Because Apple’s MagSafe charger has a short connection, you’ll need to be attached to your power outlet anyhow. Second, the charger becomes quite hot, making it difficult to hold and operate the phone while it is charging. Third, Apple explicitly notes that the amount of power provided to your iPhone through MagSafe varies with temperature and system activity. This implies an iPhone won’t charge rapidly if the charger is too overheated or if you’re gaming.

The iPhone 12 Pro versions use a new A14 processor, which is the first in the smartphone market to be manufactured on a 5-nanometer technology for improved performance and efficiency. The A14’s 6-core CPU and 4-core GPU, according to Apple, are 50 percent quicker than rival smartphone processors. The A14 processor has a 16-core Neural Engine that boosts machine learning performance by 80%.
