The history of global online gaming goes back to the invention of the first mainframe computers in the mid 20th century. Games were created to test such machines. Games were also designed to test networks. On January 1, 1983, Advanced Research Projects Agency Network ( ARPANET) embraced the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). TCP/IP is a networking protocol allowing two computers to communicate.

Researchers started assembling the “network of networks,” becoming the Modern Internet. The World Wide Web invention by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989. The Internet started gaining worldwide popularity in 1990. On August 15, 1995, Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL) first launched the Internet Service in India. The history of Indian online gaming goes back to the early 2000s. Only console and PC players were able to do online gaming. Not every Indian had Consoles and PCs, even today as well. That is why the consumption was limited at that moment. Early games from the Call of Duty franchise and other games (FIFA, Counter-strike,

and Dota) became quite popular in India in the mid-2000s. After that, social platforms like Facebook made its way to India. Indian people got chances to play games like Farmville and Mafia Wars as Adobe Flash applications on Facebook.

In 1994, Nokia reached the Indian market. In 1995, the very first GSM call happened on a Nokia 2110 mobile phone on the Nokia network. But, games like Snake on Nokia became famous in the early 2000s. The Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC launched India’s first smartphone on June 23, 2009. It was worth Rs. 30,000. Yet, Smartphones started using the Internet after 2010. Smartphones with processing power & graphics capabilities and the broadband Internet connection became available a few years ago, boosting players to enjoy their favorite game online on any i-Gaming platform. 

In 2008, fantasy sports came into the Indian market with online gaming platforms and apps. i-Gaming platforms and their apps became large in number over time. They have been offering many online games in various following genres:
